Sheffield’s own literary festival Off the Shelf is back and better than ever, kicking off its 32nd edition this October.
The ‘Festival of Words’, delivered by The University of Sheffield and supported by Sheffield Hallam University, will run from 13th – 29th October, offering 70 diverse and thought-provoking events taking place either online or in various venues across campus and other areas of the city. From everyone’s favourite wildlife expert Chris Packham, to Sheffield’s own Poet Laureate Danae Wellington, Off the Shelf has something for everyone. Whether you’re into painting, literature, or politics, or even if you want to workshop some of your own writing with the help of professionals, Off the Shelf is the place for you.
Tickets are available for purchase now via the Off the Shelf website, where you can also find the full programme of this year’s events.
Some highlights are sure to be:
- Murder on the Dance Floor: beloved Strictly head judge Shirley Ballas discusses her debut ‘cosy crime’ novel with a Blackpool Tower Ballroom backdrop, and tells all about her dazzling career.
- Othello by William Shakespeare… adapted by AI: this one-of-a-kind production of one of Shakespeare’s best-loved tragedies asks the difficult question: can AI manipulate human emotion?
- Coco Chanel: The Legend and the Life: Editor-in-Chief for Harper’s Bazaar Justine Picardie separates fact from fiction in this illustrated talk based on the bestselling biography of fashion icon Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel.
