69th BFI London Film Festival previews at Showroom Cinema

For the fifth consecutive year, Showroom Cinema will be collaborating with the BFI London Film Festival to bring this year’s most anticipated films to Sheffield.

During the festival, Showroom Cinema joins other UK venue partners in showcasing the best new cinema from around the world, with preview screenings accompanied by special introductions or Q&A.

Isobel Harrop, Assistant Programmer: Young Audiences said: “Showroom Cinema is proud to be a BFI London Film Festival partner venue for the fifth consecutive year, a milestone that means a great deal to us as an independent cinema.

“Being selected as one of just eleven touring venues across the country for the programme allows us to bring the excitement and discovery of the festival directly to Sheffield audiences, celebrating bold, diverse filmmaking from around the world right here in our community.”

Audiences can also enjoy a wide range of free-to-access digital talks and events which offer in-depth conversations with some of the world’s most influential filmmakers and major on-screen talent.

Over the festival 12 titles will be shown, running from Wednesday 8 to Sunday 19 of October and in previous years previews included films such as Conclave, All of Us Strangers and The Banshees Of Inisherin, months before general release.

She said: “As we mark three decades of Showroom Cinema, continuing this collaboration is a recognition of the vital role we play in connecting people through film. We’re deeply grateful to the BFI London Film Festival team, the filmmakers, and especially our audiences, whose passion keeps spaces like ours alive. Here’s to another year of remarkable cinema on our screen.”

The festival opens with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the latest instalment of the Knives Out series, and features Daniel Craig, Jeremy Renner and Mila Kunis.

Also amongst the films is Palme D’or winning and critically acclaimed It Was Just an Accident from director Jafar Panahi, a gripping thriller about a roadside accident with unintended consequences, tackling social issues under Iran’s regime.

Furthermore Guillermo del Toro brings his unique, gothic storytelling to an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone reunite for another darkly funny feature in Bugonia where two conspiracy obsessed men kidnap a high-powered CEO (Stone), convinced she’s an alien intent on destroying Earth.
