The University of Sheffield have confirmed that the Octagon will be used as a walk-in vaccination centre for all adults in Sheffield from Monday 14th June.
Currently over 25s can book a vaccination appointment through the NHS website, but from Monday all Sheffield residents aged over 18 will be able to go to the Octagon between 8am and 5pm every day and collect a ticket which will give them a time slot for their vaccination.
The vaccine hub at the University’s Octagon building will be Sheffield’s second large scale vaccination centre, with the first situated at Sheffield arena. Sheffield Teaching Hospitals are aiming to give out 800 vaccines a day at the Octagon.
The news comes amidst growing levels of vaccine hesitancy in the UK, with NHS officials urging those eligible to come forward and get their vaccine.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock has confirmed that vaccines are our “route out of the pandemic”, with vaccines an essential part of the plan to lift restrictions on June 21st.
The Octagon Centre had previously housed the University of Sheffield testing centre which is now located on level 4 of the Students’ Union.
