If you’re someone that wants an equal balance of student commotion and peace, then Crookes is the place to be. Although it is only a stone’s throw away from the University and a quick bus ride from the city centre, Crookes feels like its own real community. Both students and families live in the area which gives it a much more homely feeling compared to the Crookesmoor area just down the hill, which is more chaotic due to the large student crowd.
If you’re considering moving to Crookes, don’t let the hills put you off. Conduit Road is incredibly daunting at first; getting to the top after walking up it for the first time feels comparable to summiting a mountain. However, as the days and weeks go by, you get used to it quickly. Try taking a break half-way through or bringing friends up with you so it isn’t a solo mission. If you can’t bear the thought of it, or it’s pouring down with rain, don’t worry: the 52 bus will take you up the hills right into Crookes!
The Crookes high street will give you everything you need and more; it’s home to a Sainsbury’s and a Co-op, as well as numerous off-licences and a greengrocer. Fancy a takeaway? Crookes is perfect! Not only does it have a Domino’s, but it also has fish and chips, Chinese food, Indian food, chicken shops and even a dessert shop. If you’d rather go out to eat, try the five-star pizzeria Paesani. Need a cute cafe to study in? Crookes has more than enough; from the Portuguese cafe Lisboa to the Sheffield favourite Cloud Coffee and many more besides. What’s more, there are more than enough pub in Crookes alone for a good pub crawl starting from The Punch Bowl and finishing at The Old Grindstone. And if you still need more convincing, try exploring all the charity shops and plant shops that Crookes has to offer.

Bole Hill is the perfect place to go with friends to watch the sunset or have a barbecue in the summer. The recreational ground has incredible views across Sheffield, as it looks out across the skyline and even towards the Peak District. Nearby, Crookes Social Club hosts gigs regularly with artists such as Miles Kane and Kiziah & The Kings having performed there. If you’re wanting to venture into the city centre for entertainment, the 52/52a bus services will get you there. They run regularly and can get you into Sheffield and University areas within 10 minutes.
Therefore, move to Crookes. It has everything you need: the hustle and bustle of student life alongside a tight-knit peaceful community.
