Advice for A-Level Results Day 2025

After months of anticipation, A-Level students are finally going to receive the results they’ve been hoping (or dreading) to open.

Results Day can be a stressful and uncertain time, often overshadowing the excitement of what’s to come next. But with the right mindset and a bit of guidance, you can make it through the ups and downs of Results Day and handle whatever comes your way.

 The Night Before

To keep stress and endless ‘what-ifs’ at bay, try to get a good night’s sleep and stick to your usual routine. Whatever you do, don’t fall into the trap of watching endless YouTube videos of people opening their results.

It’s easy to develop imposter syndrome or start comparing yourself to others by watching reactions to results on social media. Instead, line up a comforting film, chat with a friend, or do something that helps you unwind.

 Preparing for the Big Day

In the days before Results Day, take time to research which universities and courses might be available through Clearing. Make a list of Clearing phone numbers for the universities you’re interested in. On Results Day, hotlines can get busy fast, so having them ready can save you time and stress.

On The Day

Results day can feel overwhelming, especially with UCAS queues and slow loading screens. If you choose to check the UCAS website before opening your results, it might be in your best interest to mentally prepare yourself for the frustration of the inevitable stressful technical delays.

While waiting to open your results, try to stay calm to keep your nerves in check. Many schools offer support services to help manage nerves on Results Day, and they can also guide you through alternative options if your results don’t go as planned.

Once you’ve opened your results, try not to feel pressured to compare yourself to others – remember, your results don’t define you.

Don’t Panic

If your results aren’t what you hoped, don’t panic. Explore Clearing options, have hotline numbers ready, and don’t hesitate to contact universities if you narrowly missed grades or want to request a remark.

Accept that you can’t change your results now, and that’s okay. Focus on what you can control – stay flexible if plans need to change and avoid rushing into decisions. Sometimes, what feels like a setback is just a new direction – everything happens for a reason!

Next Steps

For those who meet their offers, it’s time to secure accommodation and start thinking about moving in and university prep. Celebrate your achievement, you deserve it!

Post-results is an exciting time to look forward to freshers and new experiences.

If you’re opening your results and not heading to university, it’s time to explore the exciting next steps you can take: from apprenticeships and work experience to taking a gap year.

 Treat Yourself

Plan something fun to look forward to, whether that’s a night out, a meal with friends, or just a well-deserved treat. Results day is emotional but it’s also a milestone worth celebrating, no matter how things turned out.

No matter what your results are, remember this is just one step on your journey and they do not define you. Stay positive and get ready to embrace the exciting opportunities ahead!
