The University of Sheffield’s Ceilidh Society have announced their committee members for the upcoming academic year. The five-strong team of folk dancers are set to lead the student group’s regular sessions through until April, with new and returning faces joining this year’s lineup. Announced on the same day as A-Level results, the group will also be present at the Activities Fair later this year for budding folk dancers new to our city.
Ceilidh Society are a folk dancing and music group that run regular dance sessions in High Tor, in the Edge in Endcliffe. From beginners to experienced dancers and a mix of students, alumni and people from the local community, Ceilidh Society pride themselves on gender-free calling, accessible sessions and creating an inclusive atmosphere for all dancers, regardless of skill or requirements.
Annual General Meetings (AGMs) are an annual event in each society’s calendar, when constitution changes are voted on and new committee members are elected. Should roles remain outstanding following an AGM, an EGM (Emergency General Meeting) can be scheduled to fill remaining roles. Each society has four core roles, namely President, Secretary, Treasurer and Welfare & Inclusions Officer, which must be filled in order for a society to continue activities into the next academic year.
The committee-elect for the 2024/25 academic year is as follows:
- President ~ John
- Secretary ~ Lily
- Treasurer ~ Rowen
- Inventory Officer ~ Kerenza
- Social Media Officer ~ Emily
