AGMs 2024: Craft Club AGM Cancelled with Core Roles Vacant

The University of Sheffield Craft Club Society have cancelled their annual AGM, with core roles not receiving applications. The annual meeting, meant to be held on April 16th, had to be called off due to a lack of applicants, with a failure to fill core roles meaning the society may have to cease operations.

Taking to social media yesterday, the society reshared their AGM post, adding to their story: “The AGM at 5pm has been cancelled as not all core roles have received applicants. Details following this will be shared via Instagram shortly”. Craft Club Soc, the winner of New Society of the Year 2020, runs regular arts and crafts activities, ranging from tote bag making to embroidery pencil cases, with a range of members from across degree subjects coming together for crafting socials. The society ran special events and socials , such as for Valentine’s Day earlier this year.

Annual General Meetings (AGMs) are an annual event in each society’s calendar, when constitution changes are voted on and new committee members are elected. Should roles remain outstanding following an AGM, an EGM (Emergency General Meeting) can be scheduled to fill remaining roles. Each society has four core roles, namely President, Secretary, Treasurer and Welfare & Inclusions Officer, which must be filled in order for a society to continue activities into the next academic year.

It is unclear if or when Craft Club Soc will run another AGM, but the society has urged members to check the Instagram account for further updates regarding the situation. With the AGM period coming to a close, it is hoped that the society will be able to find leadership before it is faced with losing society status.
