The Irish Dance Society of the University of Sheffield have announced the results of their 2024 AGM, held in April of this year. The group, which was named Society of the Year in 2023, as well as Small Society of the Year and Most Improved Society of the Year, revealed their new committee members, who have been in their roles for approximately three months over the summer period.
Irish Dance Society are a regular practice and performance group, with sessions in several locations, including the Hawley Building, Students’ Union and The Edge in Endcliffe. As well as regular practice sessions, the group regularly stage their own shows, as well as an annual Irish Dance Tour, this year having headed to Belfast. The group also run non-dance socials and other events for society members.
Annual General Meetings (AGMs) are an annual event in each society’s calendar, when constitution changes are voted on and new committee members are elected. Should roles remain outstanding following an AGM, an EGM (Emergency General Meeting) can be scheduled to fill remaining roles. Each society has four core roles, namely President, Secretary, Treasurer and Welfare & Inclusions Officer, which must be filled in order for a society to continue activities into the next academic year.
