AGMs 2024: Societies Committee names Creative Societies Liaison

    25 May 2024

The Societies Committee have announced their 2024/25 committee members, following their public AGM on May 23rd. Taking place in the Nelson Mandela Auditorium in the Students’ Union, this AGM allowed any student to vote for the next team to lead the committee, rather than being restricted to members. This is due to the group being a Working Committee of the Sheffield Students’ Union, and saw Barbara-Ann McLaughlin, 2024/25 President of the University of Sheffield Light Entertainment Society (USLES) elected as Creative Societies Liaison.

Societies Committee is a student-led group that oversees all other societies, Working Committees and Representative Committees. Responsible for planning events such as the annual Dance Your Socs Off (DYSO) and the Activities Awards, the committee are a point of contact for many societies, and work closely with the elected Activities and Development Officer.

Annual General Meetings (AGMs) are an annual event in each society’s calendar, when constitution changes are voted on and new committee members are elected. Should roles remain outstanding following an AGM, an EGM (Emergency General Meeting) can be scheduled to fill remaining roles. Each society has four core roles, namely President, Secretary, Treasurer and Welfare & Inclusions Officer, which must be filled in order for a society to continue activities into the next academic year. As a Working Committee, Societies Committee is instead represented by a Chair, rather than a President.

The committee-elect for the 2024/25 academic year is as follows:

    • Chair ~ Numair Qureshi
    • Secretary ~ Mehek Muttha
    • Treasurer ~ Abi Harrison
    • Welfare & Inclusions Officer ~ Lekha Mohta
    • Events Coordinator ~ Barbara-Ann McLaughlin
    • New Societies Representative ~ Izzy Pearson
    • Publicity & Engagement Officer ~ Sana Memon
    • Equipment Officer ~ Muhammad Talha
    • Social Secretary ~ Anya Tulsian
    • Academic/Departmental Societies Liason ~ Aditya Bhardwaj
    • Creative Societies Liaison ~ Barbara-Ann McLaughlin
    • Faith Societies Liaison ~ Khushi Karson
    • Special Interest Societies Liaison ~ Fawad Ahsan
    • Working & Representative Committees Liaison ~ Laura Edwards
