Bar One and its new menu: what’s changed?

The designated Student Union bar, which serves as the gateway pub to Foundry nights and meeting point for university societies, is under new management this year.

They have released revamped options and prices.

Forge Press went to speak to bar staff to learn more about the changes made.

Perhaps chief among them is the introduction of a universal 20% discount for all University of Sheffield students, claimed by scanning your Ucard at the till.

One of the bartenders said that this change in particular has been popular among patrons to Bar One, which has occasionally been criticised in the past for failing to set prices according to its predominantly student customer base.

Previously, the 20% discount had been available ‘only on Wednesdays’.

We also asked whether the changes included new deals on drinks. Importantly, the bartender (who remained anonymous) informed us all that “cocktails on Fridays are now 2-4-1”.

New food items on the menu include loaded, skin on, and curly varieties of fries, as well as pizzas and wraps. The chicken section of the menu has been dispensed with.

All orders can now be placed via a new QR code from the tables, a feature which may be familiar to those who frequent Wetherspoons pubs.

The menu and prices are below and available from the Student Union website and app.
