Broomhall Coffee Spot Launches ‘Restaurant Elm’

On April 25th, Elm, the popular specialty coffee spot on Glossop Road, welcomed its first guests to Restaurant Elm.

Elm has long been known for its “Bistro-pop” evenings, which let guest chefs take the reins of the kitchen. Elm co-owner, Jon Daughtry, commented that these “brought so much energy and joy to the space”.

Chef Nathan Wall’s residency, however, highlighted to the Elm team that the two “shared a mutual passion” for quality ingredients and a welcoming atmosphere.

Chef Wall, who is self-taught, has been a prominent figure in South Yorkshire’s culinary scene. His switch to self-employment, which reflects his “desire to connect authentically” with patrons, allowed this partnership to occur.

Over the course of these sold-out events, a strong partnership blossomed, and what began as a collaboration in the kitchen culminated in the opening of a fully-fledged restaurant.

The opening night was a rousing success, with diners selecting between a 4 or 7 course set menu that will rotate monthly. Seasonal ingredients remain at the forefront of the initiative, and additional courses can be added at request.

Chef Wall has also refreshed the day menu, and it will continue to be open daily for locally sourced coffee, breakfast and lunch, as well as Wednesday to Saturday evenings.

Elm’s famed cinnamon buns have also returned, a must-try for students in the area.

Speaking before the restaurant launch, Daughtry added how “incredibly excited” the team was. “Our goal,” he said, “is to continue to offer a place where people can gather, share great food, and experience a warm, vibrant atmosphere.”
