Referendums are to be held to change officer roles at Sheffield Students’ Union.
Proposals on the table include a reduction in the number of SU officers overall, from 7 to 6.
SU Council rejected three other proposals for the full-time officer positions, including one which would have seen the removal of the role of SU president.
If approved, the changes will take effect in time for the Spring 2025 officer elections. SU Council also voted to send a proposal to change the Part-Time Officer (PTO) roles to referendum.
According to the proposal, elected PTO roles would be abolished and replaced with ‘Liberation Facilitators’, who would be appointed from a selection committee including councillors, officers and forum chairs.
Each facilitator would sit within their sub-group on Liberation Committee, as well as attend Liberation Forum.
The referendums on each position are expected to open on Wednesday 4 December, and remain open until Wednesday 11th December.
Elsewhere at council, proposals were approved to elect a working committee representative for the first time.
