The University of Sheffield’s Dance Society have opened applications for prospective dance teachers for the 2024/25 academic year. The 2023/24 Society of the Year are seeking new figures for their 13 teaching roles across their 5 existing disciplines, as well as leaving the opportunity open for new disciplines to be suggested, should applicants have other specialities they wish to teach to society members.
In a post on the group’s social media last week, Dance Society said: “Are you interested in becoming a teacher for 2024/25? If you are then follow the link in the bio. No experience needed! We want you guys to get the most out of Dance Society! Deadline in the 30th August”. The group are also allowing multiple people to hold a single position to ease the requirements of the job.
According to Dance Society, each role involves teaching a weekly class, consisting of a warm-up, exercises and a 1-minute routine, as well as a 3-minute dance for each of the Christmas and Easter showcases. The teaching positions within the society allows applicants to see a new side of the society and deliver teaching to both new members and returning figures alike when the new semester begins next month. Disciplines available include hiphop, modern, contemporary, tap and ballet. The society have also teased other undescribed perks, sure to intrigue potential applicants.
Dance Society take part in a range of activities throughout the year from regular classes, to showcases and tours both inside the U.K. and internationally. Dance classes are held at a range of locations, including Birkdale School, High Tor in the Edge in Endcliffe Village and The Hawley Building on the university campus. Those interested in applying for one of the society’s many teaching positions are able to do so through the society’s Instagram page, where they will be invited to answer some questions as well as submitting a short video of them teaching a dance routine, in preparation for the requirements of the role.
The latest round of opportunities to become involved with the Dance Society are unlike many offered by creative societies, allowing members old and new to teach their own skills to budding dancers from across our university community. With applications open until August 30th, now is a prime opportunity for performers and dancers to showcase their skills to those seeking to improve their own, as well as working with one of the largest creative societies at our university, and the most recent Society of the Year.
