The Disabled Students’ Part Time Officer Laura Edwards has announced activities for the upcoming World Book Day, in collaboration with University of Sheffield Libraries & the Students’ Union. Taking to their Instagram earlier today, University of Sheffield Libraries said “[World Book Day] is coming up, and along with [Sheffield Students’ Union] and [Disabled Students Part-Time Officer], we are running some brilliantly book-themed activities in the Garden Room at the Information Commons!”
Running between 11am and 3pm on Thursday March 7th, the organised events include book swaps and favourite book discussions at two different times apiece, as well as creative writing, drawing and craft activities available all day. It is hoped that this year’s activities will help to increase reading for pleasure among students, as well as helping to connect book lovers from across faculties and departments.
The World Book Day events are taking place in the Garden Room of the Information Commons, a dedicated relaxation space within the Information Commons which is designed to provide a calm environment for students, as well as regularly being stocked with recreational books. This year’s World Book Day campaign aims to bring students and books closer together, outside of the bounds of academia, reading lists or their courses. With collaboration with both the Students’ Union and Disabled Students’ Part-Time Officer, these activities seem set to be a successful initiative, as well as helping to restore a love of reading that so many seem to be missing.
World Book Day events will be taking place between 11am & 3pm on March 7th in the Garden Room, located on the ground floor of the Information Commons
