Women’s 1s:
UOS Women’s Rugby Union keep varsity winning streak secure after intense 29-7 victory.
Sports Park Day 2026 saw the University of Sheffield’s Women’s Rugby 1XV maintain their varsity winning streak, with a well-fought 29-7 win against Sheffield Hallam further extending Uni’s lead in the overall varsity standings.
The two sides, who were separated by one BUCS league this season, faced each other just last week in the cup final, where Uni took home the trophy and moved one step closer to completing the treble after also winning the league earlier this month.
An early try from Hallam winger Grace Goodwin, converted by vice-captain Hyla Morley, looked to put Uni’s varsity winning streak at risk, but the game was soon brought to level thanks to a try from forward Gabby Maher.
After a successful conversion from fullback Isabel Payne, whose skill from the tee sent Uni to the cup final last month in a tie-breaking kick off, the points were back to equal. The game continued with the momentum much more in Uni’s favour.
Tries from Millie Morgan and Melissa Neill further extended the lead before the half time whistle, with another conversion from Payne bringing the HT score to 19-7.
A substantial amount of added time saw a second half that lasted well into an hour, with winger Hannah Mehr and previous tryscorer Melissa Neill both getting the ball over the try line to take the score up to 29-7 by full time.
The win concluded a brilliant day for Uni’s rugby union sides, who took home all 4 points from their respective fixtures.
The result for captain Niamh Lloyd’s side makes her season as 1XV captain a treble winning one; the 1s will conclude their season with their final league game away at Leeds on Sunday 22nd March.

24-5 to Uni: Women’s Rugby 2XV take home the win in first 2s varsity fixture
The first official Women’s Rugby 2XV varsity fixture ended in a 24-5 win for the University of Sheffield, bringing the point home to further extend Uni’s lead on the varsity scoreboard and to help Uni’s Rugby Union teams go 4 for 4 at Hallam Sports Park.
Forward Lucy Doyle opened the scoring shortly after being substituted on in the first half, with a successful conversion from POTM Ella Bell-Preston making it a 7 point lead.
No.13 Maya O’Driscoll ran through Hallam’s defense to get Uni’s second try of the game, making it 14-0 after Bell-Preston’s conversion, leaving Hallam to have to find a way back into the game.
The second half did see Hallam get on the scoresheet after a try from no.7 Chloe Senior, but not until after Uni captain Emily Cole extended her side’s lead with a try to put Hallam even further behind. After both sides missed their conversions, the score was brought to 19-5.
Eliza Thornton sealed a 24-5 win for Uni with a try in the final minutes of the game, setting the tone for a sports park day that later saw Uni win all 4 rugby union fixtures, and bringing the first ever Women’s 2XV varsity title home to the University of Sheffield.
