    Drag makeup tutorial

Hi, I am Perfection and I’m the Vice-President of the University of Sheffield’s Drag Soc. In this tutorial I’ll be showing you how to transform yourself through the magic of Drag and create a dramatic cat eye look.

First of all, I start by shaving and cleaning my face and then applying tinted moisturiser. This is so I have a fresh and radiant face to start with. Then I start with my eyes. Whilst a lot of Drag Artists choose to do their eyes last, I always start with eye makeup because it is easier to correct and use when you have nothing else on your face.

Start off with an eye definer brush and your darkest black eyeshadow, this is going to form the base of your cat eye. Draw a line going up from the outer corner of your eye to the tip of your eyebrow.

Then connect to the rest of your eyelid.

Now fill these wings in with black eyeshadow, you can also adjust the lines at this point if you would like a different shape. When your eye is relaxed, the cat eye should now take up half of your eyelid.

Next, fill the other half of the eyelid with a colour of your choice, I’m going to go for a bright shade of red. Use your eye shading brush to put this colour on.

Then, on top of the colour you have just put on, use a complimentary glittery colour (e.g. gold or silver) and make sure to blend it out.

Finally, top the cat eye with black eyeliner and use a makeup wipe to define the edges.

Once I’m happy with my eyes I do my eyebrows.  Instead of using an eyebrow pencil I use an eye definer brush. Depending on the colour of your hair (or wig!) use a similar colour in the brow. I’m going to use a brown wig, so I am going to start filling in my brows with a light brown. Before you put any colour down, make sure to brush your brows into the shape you would like with a spoolie.

Many Drag Artists use glue to hide their natural eyebrows and draw new eyebrows on higher, however, I don’t like to do this, and I prefer to work with my natural brows. Once you have defined your brows using the spoolie and used your light colour on your brows, fill the rest of the brow in with a darker shade. Finally, highlight the brow bone with a clear highlight.

When I am happy with my brows and eyes I move onto my face, before putting any foundation down I use a colour corrector and primer, which I put on the bottom half of my face.

Next, I use a liquid foundation in shade F12 for my face, I apply this using a beauty blender.

Then I apply two sets of powder, one set that matches my foundation and another that is the pure white. I put the white powder in places I want to highlight and the neutral powder on the other areas of my face. If you can, use two different setting brushes for each shade of powder!

After the powder I use a NYX Wonderstick to highlight and contour; if you don’t have this then you can use power or cream highlight on contour instead. I apply highlight in the same places as my white powder, but I contour the sides of my nose and the section of my cheeks just under the eye highlight.

This picture shows what it will look like before being blended. Then blend this out with a beauty blender. I prefer to use one beauty blender for my highlight and one for my contour.

Finally, all that’s left are the finishing touches. I apply blush to my cheeks, and I apply this in a diagonal motion rather than circular. Then I apply further highlight under my eyes, on the tip of my nose and on my cupid’s bow.

When you are happy with the amount of blush and highlight, blend the layers out using a face brush. Be light handed when doing this because you don’t want to move or take off any product, instead you are trying to blend it all together to create a finished look.

Once blended apply a lip colour of your choice and false eyelashes; I love big lashes however, with this look I am going to use more natural looking lashes because I want to show off my eye. I also apply gemstones to the corner of my eyes for that added Drag look! Once you’re happy with your look, spray some fixing spray to keep everything in place, find a gorgeous outfit, and pop that wig on!
