The Sheffield University Drag Society (DragSoc) have announced their latest upcoming show, set to play next week in Bar One’s Raynor Lounge.
Themed around Fantasy! The show will see returning DragSoc favourite performers taking to the stage, including Polly Peptide, Taiga Bite and Prinx Quean.
It will also be another opportunity for new Drag performers to show their skills on the Raynor Lounge stage, alongside drag veterans of our student community.
In a social media post on the group’s Instagram in the past few days, DragSoc revealed their latest show, as well as announcing ticket availability for the show.
“Did somebody say more DragSoc??? Join us NEXT WEEK on the 22nd for our fantasy themes drag show!”
“Tickets are £5 and can be found in our bio or on the SU website”
The group also revealed their partnership with the gender identity charity Mermaids, saying that “all ticket sales will be donated to the Mermaids charity in honour of the show taking place a few days after TDOR [Trans Day of Remembrance].”
TDOR is an annual event for Trans+ people, observed on November 20th, dedicated to remembering Trans+ people who have been harmed or killed from transphobic violence, as well as honouring those furthering Trans+ rights worldwide.
The annual vigil is being observed at Sheffield’s Winter Gardens on November 20th from 5:30pm.
The Drag Society was founded in 2018 as a “welcoming and supportive place for ALL drag and creativity at the University of Sheffield”.
Its performers put on a number of shows throughout the year, and often partner with charity and community groups for good causes and to raise money.
Past charity partners include Coppafeel! and SAYiT, with the Drag Society regularly participating in a charity screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show for local LGBTQ+ young people, recently starring Polly Peptide as Dr Frank-N-Furter in this summer’s rendition.
Their latest charity, Mermaids, supports Trans+, non-binary and gender-diverse children and their families across the UK, offering helpline services, training for groups and professionals, as well as advocacy and lobbying of decision-makers to improve the lives of gender-diverse young people.
With the return of DragSoc looming in the coming days, students across the university are awaiting the group’s talented cadre of performers’ return to the stage for their latest show.
With tickets only £5 per person, the group will be hoping that they will be in as high demand as usual, with tickets to DragSoc shows often selling out long before the opening number.
DragSoc’s Fantasty! show is playing on November 22nd in Raynor Lounge. Tickets are available here
