The English Society (Eng Soc) have announced the leading society members forming the group’s 2024/25 committee. The 16-strong cohort, formed during the society’s AGM and EGM earlier this year, are charged with running the academic society until April, and is formed of a range of new and returning members going into the new semester.

English Society is a departmental group for those studying English-based degrees or who have a passion for literature. The group runs a variety of social events throughout the year, as well as charity campaigns. They also form several sporting teams, including netball and both women’s and men’s football, competing against other society teams in campus leagues.

Annual General Meetings (AGMs) are an annual event in each society’s calendar, when constitution changes are voted on and new committee members are elected. Should roles remain outstanding following an AGM, an EGM (Emergency General Meeting) can be scheduled to fill remaining roles. Each society has four core roles, namely President, Secretary, Treasurer and Welfare & Inclusions Officer, which must be filled in order for a society to continue activities into the next academic year.

The committee-elect for the 2024/25 academic year is as follows:

    • President ~ Miriam Huntbach (preceded by Elliot Lonsdale)
    • Secretary ~ Islay Reddy (preceded by Miriam Huntbach)
    • Treasurer ~ Myah Rose (preceded by Leah Veryard)
    • Welfare & Inclusions Officer ~ Daisy Griffiths (preceded by Evie Armstrong)
