Give us your pitch! Why do you want the job and why should students vote for you? Try and keep it short, maximum four sentences.
Sheffield’s Students’ Union is the best in the country, and it owes that to its amazing 350+ societies. I will continue and expand on previous work towards this by making societies more accessible and inclusive to liberation, mature and international students. I will run a varied programme of workshops focussing on how student groups can benefit employability. I will also make collaboration between societies easier with more society showcase weeks that extend into the evenings for performance-based societies utilising Students’ Union outlets.
Why should students trust you with managing the SU’s budget funding their societies?
I have had experience being part of every role in a committee including treasurer, and as a voice in the room in SocCom, and have been part of the unbiased distribution of SU funds to societies all year. I feel I have meaningful experience and as with all things, students are my priority. I will be transparent with all society funding decisions that are made.
Do you have any hobbies?
I love to paint and craft! My first ever job was face painting and I’ve recently gotten back into picking up the brush and trying to remember all the techniques I swear I used to know.
Three words to describe yourself?
Friendly, honest, and passionate.
Who would play you in a film of your life?
Mary Elizabeth Winstead, also known as Romona Flowers.
What’s the best city in the UK (don’t be boring, you can’t say Sheffield!)?
I’d probably have to say Manchester, but I have a soft spot for Newcastle.
Pick your top 3 Uni of Sheffield societies…
This is simply impossible, I’ve been a liaison for special interest societies this year and so far have had the privilege of meeting many passionate fantastic societies. My top 3 things about Uni of Sheffield societies are:
- They are filled with people passionate enough about what they do to create communities around them.
- They are never only one thing, always finding creative ways to express their appreciation of each other and their collective interest.
- They are student-led, which means the students that run them are in the best position to relay their members’ worries and interests to the Students’ Union.
(Also a special shout out to my ‘home’ society, Horror Society)
You can time travel to any year in history anywhere in the world. Where, when and why?
The Year 3000. Where doesn’t matter too much since it will all be underwater, and I’d go there to meet your great great great granddaughter.
Film or music? Favourite film/artist depending on your answer?
Definitely film, having come from horror society, I have so many horror films that I love, but these change all the time, my constant favourite outside of horror would have to be Fighting with my Family, a fictionalised documentary about the WWE wrestler Page.
Given the choice… pub, club or coffee shop? & Name your favourite pub/ club/ cafe in Sheffield depending on your answer.
Pub – The Washington.
What’s your meal deal? Not Tesco-exclusive, you can be edgy and pick a different shop …
I recently rediscovered my childhood classic meal deal of a chicken and stuffing sandwich, prawn cocktail crisps, and a coffee that’ll keep me going until… my next coffee!
Which living person do you most admire and why?
I was lucky enough to meet and work with the founder of Horror Society, Ash. She has been an inspiration to me from the moment I met her, and through our friendship has always offered me mentorship and kindness. I’ve chosen her here because every time I feel myself faltering in this strenuous election process, I think about how hard she’s studied and worked in and out of student groups and how much she’s shaped me as a person, and I feel myself getting more confident.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Bar One Karaoke.
What’s your favourite thing about Sheffield?
The people I’ve met here, and the people I have yet to meet.
