The award-winning and much-loved musical Heathers has announced an unexpected U.K. tour, set to begin this July. Taking to Instagram in a short post, the musical said this morning: “Hold your breath and count the days: we’re heading out on tour across the UK this Autumn”.
The musical, adapted from the original 1988 film starring Winona Ryder, tells the story of Veronica Sawyer, a high school student at Westerburg High who becomes friends with the infamous Heathers, the popular girls in charge of the school. As she gets closer to them and mysterious new student Jason Dean, her life begins to change as her school becomes a lot less hospitable with this new threat.
The musical initially ran off-Broadway in New York before opening at The Other Palace in London in 2018, starring Carrie Hope Fletcher as Veronica Sawyer and Jamie Muscato as Jason Dean. Since then, it spent time playing at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and in 2021 and returned to The Other Palace for a second run, until closing on September 3rd 2023. It also had two U.K. tours, with the most recent ending on October 28th 2023, as well as being filmed professionally for home streaming.
With tour dates and venues set to be announced, we have been left with only one confirmed location so far, that being the opening run from July 24th to 27th at the Theatre Royal Windsor. As we await further details of this upcoming tour, including locations and casting, we can only speculate on what the third U.K. Heathers tour will bring, and whether we are set for any surprises in our latest venture to Westerburg High.
The third U.K. tour of Heathers the Musical will open on July 24th at the Theatre Royal Windsor. A professional recording of the West End production is available on DVD, and is also accessible on various streaming services
