The hit musical Heathers has revealed a limited run of the show will be staged this summer at the West End’s newest theatre @sohoplace. This run will precede the recently announced U.K. tour of the show, running from May 22nd to July 6th.
Directed by Andy Fickman, the musical is set in the American Westerburg High and follows high achiever Veronica Sawyer, as she attempts to befriend the notorious Heathers – Chandler, McNamara & Duke – and mysterious new student J.D. to get her through the school year at her rough high school. The cult classic, based on the 1989 film starring Winona Ryder, has become one of the most popular musicals for young theatre fans, who have become known as ‘Corn Nuts’, a reference to a snack bought by Veronica and J.D. during the musical. This latest production follows two highly successful runs at The Other Palace and two previous U.K. tours.
Its venue, @sohoplace, is London’s newest West End venue, with a fully accessible design and In-The-Round seating arrangement, that will mean many production elements of Heathers will be reimagined for the venue’s space, with the show saying that we can all expect to “experience Heathers the Musical differently – up close and personal”. The venue is currently home to the show Red Pitch, and was also recently the home of the new musical The Little Big Things.
Following its run in the West End, the production will be heading out on tour, beginning in Bath on July 30th, with notable tour stops including Portsmouth, Newcastle and coming to Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre from October 1st to October 5th.
As we approach the return of the acclaimed musical to our stages, the announcement of a London run at the beginning of the summer break is sure to be an exciting moment for ‘Corn Nuts’ in and around London’s West End. With a reimagined production in store, we’re donning our scrunchies and preparing to “step into [their] candy store” for an explosive show!
Heathers will be playing from May 22nd to July 6th at @sohoplace in the West End and touring the U.K. from July 30th
