Celluloid Screams: Sheffield Horror Film Festival has returned to Showroom cinema with a jam-packed schedule of premieres, previews, terrifying short films, classic screenings and special guests available for horror fans looking for a fright fix!
Isobel Harrop, Assistant Programmer: Young Audiences at Showroom said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Celluloid Screams back to the Showroom for its 17th year.
“Since 2009, the festival has been a cornerstone of Sheffield’s film culture, bringing together horror fans from near and far to celebrate the very best in genre cinema. This year’s programme looks bigger, bolder, and bloodier than ever, and we can’t wait to share it with audiences in the heart of the city.”

This year’s highlights include a drag zombie extravaganza on opening night with Tina Romero’s Queens of the Dead, followed by a live drag monster show from local legends Cryptid Queers, premieres of gory revenge comedy Hacked, fantasy horror epic Deathstalker, Korean creepfest Noise and classic screenings of Martyrs, Return of the Living Dead and Tales from the Crypt.
Starting today, 23 October, the festival will run until 26 October and will finish with Julia Ducournau’s new feature Alpha, which was shown at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
In its 17 year history, Celluloid Screams has premiered high-profile films such as Paranormal Activity, Mandy, The Witch, Barbarian, The Editor, Psycho Goreman, and Titane. It remains a showcase for emerging, international horror talents.
