Give us your pitch! Why do you want the job and why should students vote for you?
I care about you and your environment! I want your uni experience to be the best it can be. I’m looking to push for better (cheaper) public transport, fast and communicative mental health services and better access to spaces such as quiet rooms. I will also look to create accessible sustainability initiatives such as sewing clubs which can teach people to upcycle their clothes and walking groups so people can feel safe whilst walking around Sheffield as opposed to using services like Uber. I will also look to continue the good work of the swap shop.
With an unlimited budget, what three things would you do to improve student-experience?
- Free public transport for all students. Free shuttle buses that go into different areas of Sheffield.
- Better and speedier access to mental health services.
- Free classes to educate people on sustainability.
Why is sustainability important to you?
I have no desire to boil/freeze to death. How many times has a heatwave made you reconsider your life choices? Or freezing winters incapacitated you? How many times have you seen your favourite park get excavated for some buildings? How many have you shelled out on an ‘ethical’ product only to find out the company is implicated in shady dealings? How many times have you heard your parents or grandparents talk about animals you have never seen and discussed how commonplace they used to be? How many times have you craved fruit but been unable to get it because the current season has stretched too long and the season of the fruit hasn’t come? Sustainability is important to me because we deserve better, and the generations to come deserve better.
Three words to describe yourself?
Stressed. Competent. Approachable.
Who would play you in a film of your life?
Myself, or maybe my little sister, she’s way cooler than me.
What’s the best city in the UK?
I’m not sure I barely do any exploring, I’m such a homebody. With my limited exploration I’ll have to pick London. Whenever I go there I become a baby girl, because I always go with rich friends.
What’s your greatest fear?
Being complicit in or leading the oppression of others.
You can time travel to any year in history anywhere in the world. Where, when and why?
I would travel to Mali probably during the time of mansa musa, so i could take some gold and get ultra rich for me and my generations to come. Maybe, I’d go back to when the dinosaurs were alive so I could be chased by one, defeat it and ride it like a rollercoaster.
What’s your meal deal? Not Tesco-exclusive, you can be edgy and pick a different shop…
Co-op gluten free sandwich (there’s only one), dried mangoes, the reusable water bottle.
Given the choice… pub, club or coffee shop? & Name your favourite pub/club/cafe in Sheffield depending on your answer.
Coffee shop! My favourite is any of the GeniUS cafes because i can get a free hot chocolate using the better points app!
What superpower would you choose?
Telekinesis. I don’t know how relatable this is, but I always see monsters at night. With telekinesis I can just switch on the lights with my mind and see it’s actually my bag and not a clawed hand coming out of my wardrobe. The ability to turn into a car (that runs on food) or flying so I can finally stop being late to my lectures. Imagine walking to school and just seeing me turning into a sleek red race-car, or a massive truck, like Optimus Prime.
Which living person do you most admire and why?
Very cheesy but my grandmothers. They have pathed the way for everything I can be and do today.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Staying up at ungodly hours watching bad reality TV.
What’s your favourite thing about Sheffield?
I love how green Sheffield is and the number of parks.
