It Came From the Ice opens Designer applications

It Came From the Ice, the third of the Sheffield University Theatre Company (SUTCo) productions to be staged this semester, have opened their call for technical and stage team members.

The final tech call to be opened, the week eight production follows in the footsteps of Accidental Death of an Anarchist and The Effect in launching their campaign, for the production being staged in April.

Launching the show’s social media in conjunction with SUTCo’s primary platform, the production team yesterday began their search “for designers to join [their] tech team and help make the show happen”, in the first stage of a two-step process to source team members.

The production have also invited applicants to contact them should more information about available roles be required, with the wider tech call expected in mid January.

Written and directed by SUTCo member Luke Hookham (The Importance of Being Earnest, The Shivers), the play follows a group of scientific researchers in an Antarctic shelter, being followed and picked off by a mysterious and unknown entity.

The cosmic horror play, to be staged in week eight, has not yet confirmed production dates or location, as this has yet to be secured by the SUTCo committee, charged with sourcing the alternate venue production’s location.

Successful applicants to be a designer for It Came From the Ice will be working with Production Manager Phil Saxby (Amélie, The Shivers), who alongside Assistant Director and Co-Producer Darcey Severne (Summoning Morphsuit Gary, The Shivers) , and Co-Producer Heather Ellis (Summoning Morphsuit Gary, Why We Stay), complete Hookham’s production team.

With all three upcoming SUTCo productions having opened their tech calls, the chances to get involved with behind-the-scenes roles at SUTCo are as plentiful as they will be until the beginning of 2025/26.

As no prior experience is required, the new year may be the perfect opportunity for new techies to emerge, as well as the chance for returning SUTCo faces to add another credit or role to their portfolio.
