Live Review: Henry Moodie @ Network

Henry Moodie is a British singer-songwriter who rose to fame relatively recently in 2022, majorly due to his success on TikTok. Last year I went to see The Vamps in concert and Henry was their opening act in the O2 arena in London. At the time I didn’t recognise his name and wasn’t expecting very much from him but he blew me and my family away with his incredible voice and humble nature despite opening for such a huge band in an extremely famous venue.

Henry performed at Network in Sheffield on Friday 25 October. As soon as my plus one and I arrived at the venue, it was very clear from the queue alone that we were going to have a fun night. The variety of ages and genders was clear from the outset and the crowd was buzzing and sociable even before the doors opened which is always a good sign.

Two support acts have been on tour with Henry over his European tour which has spanned cities such as Paris, Amsterdam and London. Ben Ellis, a Welsh singer-songwriter, was the first opener of the night and has received lots of attention online with his TikTok platform being a huge catalyst for catapulting him to the heights he sees now at the mere age of 22 years old. Ben was a great warm up act for the show and seemed to get the crowd excited and ready for what was to come.

Next up was James McVey from the previously mentioned band, The Vamps. James is now mostly focusing on being a solo artist following the extreme fame and success from being part of the band. I was impressed by James’s performance of a few covers, demonstrating the versatility of his talents; he also performed songs from his newest EP. The crowd loved James and I thought he was a really good fit for supporting Henry as they have similar styles and vibes.

Henry came on around 9pm to a raucous reaction and had the crowd in the palm of his hand. It felt like one of the quickest concerts I’ve been to, probably down to the fact that Henry fit 14 songs into one hour!

The interaction he had with fans was super positive and he appeared genuinely grateful for the experience he had of being on stage and doing what he loves. I really appreciated the vulnerability Henry displayed when discussing the meanings behind some of the songs he sung, and I think that is why his fanbase is so loyal due to his vulnerability and sharing his inner struggles which resonate with others.

For me, the best song on the live set was “Right Person, Wrong Time” because of the crowd’s reaction and the upbeat tempo which was made even more effective by the incredible band who joined him on stage.

Overall, seeing Henry live has only made me and my plus one want to book tickets again immediately! His talent is so impressive and his stage presence (which so many artists lack) was unbelievable.
