Maria Jose Lourido Moreno has been reelected Education Officer for the SU for the 2024/25 academic term.
This is a post she’s already held during the current academic year.
She won a total of 1412 votes to win re-election, beating three other candidates in the process.
She spoke to Forge Radio after her election win…
How are you feeling right now?
I’m just really grateful to be Education Officer once again.
What are you proud of doing in your first term?
This year has been insane, we’ve had so many wins.
One of the recent things, one of the big wins, is that we managed to get Said, the student stuck in Gaza with his family, out and I can’t believe that we managed to do it.
That really shows the power that Students’ Unions have and what they do for you. An SU can do so much for you, and the people who are dedicated and loving about it will keep doing stuff for you that you don’t even know about.

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Rewatching the Germany vs Brazil 7-1 game from the 2014 World Cup. As a Colombian, it vindicates the fact that our game against Brazil was rigged.
Who would play you in a film of your life?
The only famous Colombian actress is Sofia Vergara but we have nothing else in common!
Which living person do you most admire and why?
My Grandad. He was a doctor in the middle of a bloody civil war in a relatively poor country and had to face really gnarly things, yet he never charged a single penny and worked on a pay what you can basis. He is my hero and has taught me everything from how to walk and read to how to be inquisitive and persistent. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without him.
