MATCH PREVIEW: Sheffield Wednesday vs Luton Town

Sheffield Wednesday come into today’s home game hoping to get closer to the playoffs with a win against relegation-threatened Luton Town.

Today’s visitors sit second-bottom of the Championship, three points from safety, and are at risk of becoming the first club since Sunderland in 2017/18 to suffer back-to-back relegations from the Premier League to League One.

The Owls have enjoyed mixed form recently, but are looking up the table towards the play-offs following a 2-0 win against QPR last time out.

That result leaves Wednesday three points off the play-offs in tenth place, although they can go level with 6th placed Middlesbrough should they win, and other results go their way this afternoon.

Both teams have struggled defensively so far this season, conceding 45 and 48 goals in their 29 games each, respectively- the third and fourth worst records in the division.

Wednesday are looking to go five unbeaten in S6 with a result today, while Luton will be trying to turn around their rotten away form, which has seen them lose nine league away matches on the spin, stretching back to Millwall in September.

Luton have had a busy week in the transfer window, with four incomings including Thelo Aasgaard from League One outfit Wigan Athletic, centre-back Kai Naismith from fellow Championship side Bristol City.

The Owls, meanwhile, have seen confirmation that Shea Charles’ loan has been extended to the end of the season, while former Southampton man, Stuart Armstrong, has arrived to bolster the midfield.

Speaking to the media before today’s game, Wednesday head coach Danny Rohl said that the team needed to improve their home form to have a better chance at getting into the play-offs.
