On Sunday 10th November, a Vegan Market will be in Sheffield’s city centre. Located in the Moor from 10am to 4pm.
We spoke to Lewis Beresford, managing director, about why it would appeal to students. He said: “We have food, charities and everything in between. We know young people are interested in the factors that make veganism interesting”.
He said: “It’s about bringing the community together to find local producers. We can put together an interesting street food selection, that’s an educational tool to get people thinking”.
He also explained that ‘learning about the impact of food production on the planet’ started his vegan journey.
Vegan Market Co has run markets in 50 locations across the country since 2019. Due to popularity, the Sheffield market is four times a year.
He said: “We have core traders, but we do pull in regionally local traders. The Adventurous Cake Book is a popular local Sheffield store, they’ve been doing our events for some time”.
It is the first market after summer festivals and ‘will probably be the biggest one in terms of trader numbers’.
On accessibility, having gluten free options (GF)and being dog friendly, ‘is something our traders respond to’. He added: “When we get applications saying they have a huge GF range, there is a demand for it”.
Sheffield is one of their top five locations. He said: “There is a good trader community, a huge student population and young professionals.”
Some might worry about not being welcome at the market. To which he addressed and said: “The way we set up our markets is to be accessible in how it is about promoting how great the food looks and tastes.
“There is no sense of pressure that we are really conscious of”.
