Meet your new Postgrad Part-Time Officer

Following the SU Autumn Elections, Beth Hayward was elected as the new Postgraduate Part-Time Officer out of 23 candidates.

We sat down with Beth to speak to her about her election and her aims for the year.

Beth said: “A lot of activities are undergrad based and there are less social opportunities for postgraduates”

To solve this, Beth proposes separate give it a go sessions and societies for postgraduate students, subject specific events and also opportunities for networking.

Stating, ‘We need to recognise the age difference’ between undergrad and postgrad students when it comes to social aspects of university life.

From her experience as the social secretary and inclusions officer for the snowsports society, Beth intends to use her skills of “working with a diverse range of people” to organise events such as an ‘unforgettable postgraduate ball’.

When asked about what made her campaign so unique, Beth reflected on wearing a bread costume to student events such as the charity go-athon on the 15th of october and also gave out free bread to students whilst interviewing them on their expectations for their next postgrad officer, adding to the focus on every student being unique in her manifesto.

On the topic of campaigning, when asked her advice on how to create an efficient and creative campaign, Beth’s main words of wisdom were to “be true to yourself, and be true to your aims”, and also to “always make it fun”.

Beth is looking forward to opportunities to collaborate with the other officers in the Students Union, taking on their proposals and applying them to the postgraduate community, viewing herself as “just another student here to help”

We look forward to seeing her goals play out in the next year.
