The men’s mental health charity HUMEN is launching its next ‘Rise Against Suicide’ campaign and is calling for Student Unions across the country to take part.
The research will support their Rise Against Suicide sunrise walk on 4th December, where fundraisers will walk a Pub Pilgrimage of 5,151 metres – one for each man lost to suicide last year.
The event will start at 10am on Sunday 4th with a talk at Loxley Bar and Grill, Loxley New Road in Sheffield. The charity are offering interviews with the Founder and Actor River Hawkins, interviews with Damian Chapman, and real life case studies and stories.
They are ‘calling on Sheffield to come to the pub and talk about their mental health.’
Following the completion of its Mental Health League Table, HUMEN found that universities need to improve their campus facilities and staff training, and increase budgets to university mental health services.
River Hawkins, founder of HUMEN, said: “Students need friendly spaces to talk, listen and connect. As Student Unions are the cornerstone of every campus, they can play an important role in addressing suicide and mental health.
“We want universities to consider mental health support just as much as they value academic performance – and they want to help. The right to talk should never be a privilege.”
The Rise Against Suicide campaign aims to encourage safe, progressive conversation in gathering places such as Students Unions.
This month representatives from HUMEN will also be going into Students Unions on British and Irish campuses in an attempt to facilitate conversations on mental health. More on this can be found here.
