Movember fundraising nears £70,000

With only eight days left until the Movember fundraising campaign closes, the University of Sheffield has raised nearly £70,000 for the cause. Over 20 clubs and societies have contributed by organising a variety of events, including spinathons, 12-hour games, charity tournaments, and bake sales.

Movember focuses on raising awareness of men’s health issues, including prostate and testicular cancer, as well as mental health and suicide prevention.

Forge spoke to a student who participated in several club activities. They shared:

“It brings the clubs together for one cause. We all want to see money go to good causes, and Movember really embraces that value.”

Another student discussed the Sports Committee’s fashion show held in November:

“It was hilarious and just great. November is a lot of fun; everyone is always trying to come up with new ways to raise money. The fashion show itself is an annual event, but it was fantastic this year.”

In a statement to the Tab, Luke Liu, the Movember ambassador for the university, said:

“It was heartwarming to see how eager they all are.”

Clubs and societies are currently striving to beat the university record of £71,000. With only 8 days left, there is a strong possibility that they will surpass it!
