A student-loved bar in Crookesmoor hosted a Ukrainian Tap Takeover to raise money for those affected by the war.
Earlier this month, Berlin Calling, on Barbour Road, raised £177.66 for the Repair Together charity, during a night of ‘Pravda Beer and Techno’.
Repair Together is a charity who aims to aid communities that are suffering from the occupation of Ukraine.
Former Berlin Calling bartender, William, said: “Ukraine deserves all the charities and it’s lovely that we were able to organise this event at our bar to show our support.”
He added that it was nice seeing everyone dressing in the colours of the Ukrainian flag at the event.
The event was a collaboration with Pravda Brewery, a well-loved beer producer in Ukraine, who launched the ‘Brew for Ukraine’ campaign.
This campaign urges breweries to raise donations for Ukraine through selling beer.
A spokesperson from Pravda Brewery said collaborations with Ukraine Brewers and events such as tap takeovers will all go directly towards agencies actively assisting Ukraine refugees.
Berlin Calling’s tap takeover was organised by Freddie Dancey, and featured Ukraine Techno music, raising money for Repair Together with every beer sold during the night.
Eilidh, who was at the event, said there was a good atmosphere and it was nice to see so many people coming to support this charity and educating themselves about the war in Ukraine.
Another attendee, Emily Han, added: “The atmosphere was fantastic as it wasn’t too pushy but still very informative,
“I think holding a drinking event was a perfect approach for university students as it combines popular drinking culture while educating like-minded people on the war.”
A spokesperson from the Bummit Society said: “Socials such as drinking at a local bar, is a successful way to target a younger audience and educate them about the war crisis.”
Berlin Calling have stated their commitment to aiding Ukraine is not over.
The owner of the bar said: “Berlin Calling’s vision is ongoing by holding multiple charity events and social gatherings.”
