Popular SU food outlet closed until 2026: what are your options now?

The popular Students’ Union restaurant, Interval, has been closed over the summer and will stay closed until 2026.

Interval has been closed since the 7th of June, and will be for the foreseeable future.

Forge Press asked the Students’ Union about this, and they told us: “Interval is currently closed while the University completes essential building and maintenance work on the Graves building section of the Students’ Union.

“We don’t currently have a confirmed date for when this will be completed although we expect it will be no sooner than January 2026”.

When contacted about this, the Students’ Union said they expect it will reopen ‘no sooner than January 2026’. It has closed for maintenance and building works.

The Interval was a popular place to eat and socialise – from Luxury Hot Chocolates to society dinners and events, it was in constant use.

The Students’ Union has introduced a new menu and deals for 2024/25 in Bar One.

Although Interval is closed for at least 18 months, there are new options elsewhere in the SU.

Students will now get a 20% discount on all food and drinks in Bar One. A table service app is also being launched.

We asked people for their favourite memories of Interval, and highlights included: “the phenomenal lunch deal they used to do” and planning SUTCo shows, sharing the memory: ‘five lesbians eating a quiche’!

Another notable memory was ‘going for a Sunday brekkie with mates in first year circa 2015-2016’.

The SU has also replaced ’Proper Pasty’ with a bakery outlet called ‘Baked’, selling rolls, cakes and drinks. Owned by the SU, they say that they are ‘ensuring their prices are as competitive as possible’.

During Freshers Week, the first 100 customers each day will get a free sausage roll too.
