The final Sheffield student theatre production team for the 2024/25 academic year has been announced.
The Sheffield University Performing Arts Society (SUPAS) have revealed the team that will bring their semester two musical, Into the Woods, to life later this year.
The production will be staged after the spring break at the University of Sheffield Drama Studio.
Taking to Instagram yesterday afternoon, the musical theatre society welcomed their latest production team and said that they “can’t wait to see what [they] do with [their] semester 2 show, ‘Into the Woods’!”
The production team will be led by Jamie Stephens (Be More Chill, Made in Dagenham) as Director, recently seen playing lead Jeremy Heere in semester one’s Be More Chill.
This will be Stephens’ first production team, and a chance for them to “direct one of [their] favourite shows”.
Joining Stephens is Jack Wheatley (Be More Chill) as Musical Director, tasked with leading vocal and band rehearsals, as well as crafting the overall musical dynamic for the production.
Into the Woods sees Wheatley returning to his role after first being Musical Director for semester one’s Be More Chill.
Stan Smith (Be More Chill, Made in Dagenham), who is also SUPAS’ Social Secretary, will be the show’s Choreographer, already looking ahead to “first night and seeing it all come together!”
The production will also be Smith’s first production team role with SUPAS since choreographing The Addams Family in December 2023.
Completing the production team is Matt King (Sweeney Todd) as Production Manager, tasked with overseeing all technical aspects of the show, as well as managing the technical team.
The four-person team will be charged with creating the entirety of the production and all aspects, including managing their respective cast, technical team and band, under the guidance of the SUPAS committee.
The announcement was met with excitement from many SUPAS members, with one celebrating “This is ICONIC!!!!!!”, and another calling the production team a “fantastic group”.
A production team in place, work can now get underway for the next musical in SUPAS’ programme, with auditions expected early in the second semester.
With three months to go until SUPAS lead us Into the Woods, the company is beginning to grow and planting the seeds of the final musical of 2024/25.
