After a long-awaited refurbishment, Goodwin finally reopened its doors for Sheffield gym-goers on 22 November.
Sporting all-new Technogym equipment and ambient lighting, the new gym exudes a much more modern and sophisticated environment to cater to everybody’s fitness needs.
As a Goodwin member myself, I can attest to how much better the new designs make use of the available space than the previous equipment arrangement.
The downstairs area boasts impressive powerlifting equipment alongside a free-weight section, inclusive to all fitness levels. New equipment additions, such as the hack squat and T-bar row, undoubtedly excite the average gym member to adapt session plans. For any endurance enthusiasts, the multitude of brand-new cutting-edge cardio machines is most definitely an enticing upgrade.
My personal favourite technological feature is the easy-to-use touchscreen nature of the treadmills.
In consideration of previous feedback, a much-needed array of cable machines now dominate the upstairs floor, alongside straightforward, easily accessible pin-loaded equipment.
Nonetheless, potential newcomers should be aware of the current lack of matted areas, hampering their ability to complete floor workouts or stretch before training.
However, these will be relocated from the temporary studios over the upcoming weeks, so is yet to be a cause for concern.
Sport Sheffield is currently offering £175 student memberships for the entire academic year until 30 June 2024. If independent gym sessions aren’t your thing, fear not, as Goodwin further offers a variety of structured classes within this superb deal; these range from brand-new virtual-led spin workouts to instructor-led yoga classes, making this a fantastic offer for both returning and new student members.
Goodwin has unarguably exceeded itself with its revamped interior, and I would motivate others to come along to take a peek for themselves!
