Give us your pitch! Why do you want the job and why should students vote for you?
How do you focus on a degree when you’re in a financially tough spot? Or in your lecture when you’re menstruating but you don’t have access to period products? So many liberation issues that I already care about and have passed policies on at SU Council manifest quite overtly in our own university experiences. As an officer, I hope to help better the experience of education for as many people as possible, and I’ll continue to hold the University to account for all its decisions being made without student input.
With an unlimited budget, what one thing would you do to improve higher education in the UK?
Change fees and grants! Education should be accessible to everyone.
Why do you believe a degree-level education is important?
I don’t think a degree-level education is important in the sense we see it as a society, but I think the ability to pursue a topic in depth is an important part of having a life that’s whole, where you can pursue passions and learn to advance ideas within those fields. The skills we gain are great but the opportunity itself is valuable too.
Three words to describe yourself?
Dedicated, thoughtful, creative.
Who would play you in a film of your life?
Zendaya.
What’s the best city in the UK (don’t be boring, you can’t say Sheffield)?
Liverpool, or so I’ve been told.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Watching The Vampire Diaries.
You can time travel to any year in history anywhere in the world. Where, when and why?
I’d travel to Ancient Greece just to watch the first Olympic games.
Film or music? Favourite film/ artist depending on your answer?
Music. It tends to fluctuate frequently; I’ll say Anderson .Paak and Abel Selaocoe as my official answers. But ‘joli’ on YouTube has some really unique songs and could easily be my favourite if she released her demos. If you love Kate Bush, her music would be up your alley.
Keep one. Henderson’s relish, mayonnaise or ketchup?
Ketchup.
Given the choice … pub, club or coffee shop? & Name your favourite pub/ club/ cafe in Sheffield depending on your answer.
Pub, and might just be the University Arms because it’s quieter than some others and I’m most familiar with it.
What’s your meal deal? Not Tesco-exclusive, you can be edgy and pick a different shop …
Whatever vegan wrap they’re offering, an energy drink and some kind of plain, salty crisps.
Which living person do you most admire and why?
Dr Bridget Mendler, I’ve just been seeing her all over my algorithm and getting a PhD, acting career, music career, truly Leonardo DaVinci reincarnated.
What’s your favourite thing about Sheffield?
Nature – I love how surrounded by green we are and I love that it’s a city but I can still see all the stars.
