Scarborough Athletic were defeated by a singular goal against League One side Burton Albion in the first round of the FA Cup.
Ahead of the game at the Pirelli Stadium, the visitors made just two changes from their National League North win against Marine the week before.
Mackenzie Maltby and Luca Colville took the places of Kieran Glynn and Frank Mulhern, who both dropped to the bench.
The Brewers suffered a narrow defeat to Cambridge in their last outing, while the Seadogs were victorious on a trip to Marine.
Scarborough fans in fine voice throughout the game, with over 1,300 making the journey from North Yorkshire.
The home side had the first proper chance which came via a left-sided cross from Dylan Williams. His curling effort was deflected but in the end easily dealt with by Scarborough ‘keeper Ryan Whitley.
Dom Tear, fresh from his goal against Marine last Saturday, had the first chance for the visitors as he got to the left byline, but his cutback was deflected out for a corner and couldn’t find a man in red.
Ryan Whitley was called into action again in the 12th minute as he rushed off his goal line to prevent Nick Akoto getting onto a through ball forward.
A home corner saw Elliott Watt’s delivery meet Cooper-Love, whose shot was blocked.
Burton then had two consecutive chances to take the lead, but to no avail.
Firstly, Whitfield right-footer effort from the left side of the penalty area was high and wide of the target.
Then just a minute later, Donovan found space but centrally but his shot from 20 yards was straight into the gloves of the Boro ‘keeper.
It was Whitfield again causing trouble, but his shot on 22 minutes skimmed the left post and went out of play for a goal kick.
Burton then had a golden opportunity to take the lead as referee Simon Mather pointed at the spot after Bailey Gooda brought down Jack Cooper-Love.
The Burton attacker stepped up to take it, but his weak effort was held by Whitley in the Scarborough net.

Scarborough had the next chance to open the scoring, but Kieran Weledji couldn’t get correct contact on an Alex Wiles cutback, following good work from Dom Tear.
The home side had the ball in the back of the net on 42 minutes, but Webster was ruled to be offside.
Just a minute later Dom Tear was through in the box on the left of the box. He weaved left and right but his shot was easily saved by Burton ‘keeper Isted.
Whitfield again had an effort on goal, his curling effort this time forcing a save from Whitley but no Albion player was nearby to poke home the rebound and the ball was eventually cleared.
Within the seven minutes of first-half stoppage time, the visitors had a freekick on the edge of the D. Luca Colville’s strike couldn’t trouble the Burton ‘keeper and his effort slammed into the defending wall.

The visitors were claiming a penalty in the first few minutes of second half action, as Dom Tear was being held by Vancotten, but there was nothing doing for the referee’s liking.
It was the visitors again, this time in the 49th minute as Maltby’s strike from distance was held by Burton ‘keeper Isted.
Whitfield then carried on his exploits from the first half and danced in and out of the ‘Boro defence before unleashing a shot from the edge of the box that deflected over.
The home side then brought on their bagsman, Danilo Orsi, in place of the youngster Romelle Donovan.
After just a few minutes on the pitch, Burton’s no.9 was involved in the first goal of the game.
Kalinauskas played an intricate one-two with Orsi and Burton’s no.7 fired the home side into the lead- via a deflection past the ‘keeper’s left to give the League One side the lead in the 69th minute.

The National League North side had the best chance after the goal. An Alex Purver set piece met the head of skipper Will Thornton who couldn’t direct his header on target.
On 76 minutes, the away side made a triple substitution with Maloney, Glynn and Mulhern all taking their place on the field.
Lewis Maloney then had an opportunity from the edge of the area from a set piece, but his effort on 80 mins hit Harry Isted’s crossbar.
Danilo Orsi’s curling attempt then hit the post, after good work from the goal scorer Kalinauskas on Burton’s left.
In the end, the National League North side couldn’t get past their League One opponents, but matched their best ever run in the competition despite defeat.
