The University of Sheffield’s annual Dance Competition, run by the Dance Society, has announced its return in 2025. The event, which brings together dance societies from across the country, will return on March 1st, and has begun to register interest for competitive entries. In a post on the group’s specialised competition account yesterday, the society said: “So excited to announce our 2025 Sheffield Dance Competition will be on ~ MARCH 1ST 2025 […] Our form to register interest is in our bio. We will be in touch with information packs shortly!”.
The annual dance competition, which last year brought in competitors from across the nation, sees individual dance groups compete in a range of different dance categories in front of a judging panel of industry experts and leading figures in the world of professional dance. Last year’s judging panel included Anna Olejnicki, a fellow of the International Dance Teacher’s Association, West End performer Taylor Bridges, choreographer Nicola Mac and principal and founder of Nadine’s Dance Company, Nadine Kennedy Wood.
The 2025 incarnation of the event will consist of contests in fifteen different categories and levels, including both inter and advanced ballet, contemporary, modern, tap and hip-hop, as well as lyrical, commercial. There are also categories for wildcard, solo/duet/trio and improvisational performances, targeted at individual and smaller groups of representatives.
The return of Dance Society’s annual competition is an exciting announcement for many dancers both within Sheffield and the wider country, following a strong event earlier this year. Hoping to secure themselves the win in the Steel City, dance groups are encouraged to register interest with this academic year’s dance competition as soon as possible to secure a place in 2025!
The University of Sheffield Dance Competition will be held on March 1st 2025. Interest for competitors can be registered here
