Sheffield Mind has been working with the University of Sheffield to provide a Mental Health Training Programme for students.
The free programme ensures that those who are struggling can learn to identify poor mental health, and improve their resilience.
Joe Hensey, the programme coordinator, said that as part of the University’s ‘Mental Health at Work Commitment’, the charity also aims to develop a staff mental health champion and peer support roles. This ensures that students receive educated advice from people with the appropriate knowledge.
Until the end of June 2021, Sheffield Mind will be offering ‘Wellbeing Essentials’ and ‘Looking After Your Mental Health at Work’ workshops, both of which are standalone two hour sessions. The ‘Tools and Techniques’’ course lasts four weeks, with weekly two hour meetings.
Students will learn specific techniques that aid in coping with stress as well as destigmatize the topic of mental health in the process. There will also be a short quiz before each session to help students absorb their learnings.
Sheffield Mind has been providing mental health services for the past 40 years.. Their mission is to promote inclusivity and to break down societal discrimination against those with mental or physical illnesses.
Through publishing articles on how to improve your work-from-home environment during lockdown, to emotional anecdotal pieces, Sheffield Mind prioritises empowering individuals.
