Sheffield Spotlight #10, the next instalment in our series of articles shining a light on the best artists operating in Sheffield right now, comes from Mickey Nomimono with his fourth single ‘Hot and Cold’.
Self-described as a ‘techno-punk pariah’, Mickey Nomimono refuses to be pigeon-holed into a specific genre. Playing with elements of punk, rap, and electronic music, he is one of the more unique artists currently working out of the steel city.
On his latest single ‘Hot and Cold’, Mickey uses his trademark wit and cutting lyricism to explore the feeling of flicking between being on top of the world and being alone in a dark room, or “blowing hot and cold”. He does this over a beat driven by distorted guitars with a repetitive but engaging electronic hook, perfectly encapsulating the feeling of bipolarity he discusses in the song’s lyrics.
You can listen to ‘Hot and Cold’ here and you can catch one of Mickey’s energetic live shows at Shakelines, a Tramlines fringe event being put on by local record label Jarred Up. The free entry show will be held at Shakespeares pub in Kelham Island on the 22nd of July.
