Students from the University of Sheffield Rent Strike are currently occupying the Arts Tower.
They arrived this morning and say they are planning to stay throughout the weekend until their demands are met.
Their demands include a rent reduction of at least 30% and a no-penalty early release from tenancy contracts for all students in University-owned accommodation.
The group, along with students from Sheffield Hallam University, have also planned a rally at Weston Park on Sunday in support of the occupation.
Last night, students at Sheffield Hallam occupied the Cantor building on Arundel Street.
