The University of Sheffield’s University and Colleges Union branch has continued strike action to a third and final day today, though the UCU has promised to “escalate its disputes” next semester if its demands are not met.
The UCU are taking action over “falling pay, the gender and ethnic pay gap, precarious employment practices, and unsafe workloads”, as well as cuts to pensions in higher education.
The University of Sheffield’s UCU branch are also striking over the recent closure of the archaeology department and proposed structural changes to the languages department.
The Strike action comes after Sheffield’s UCU branch voted overwhelmingly to take strike action for a third year in a row.
Picket lines have been formed at university buildings this week in an attempt to highlight the demands of the UCU.
The University of Sheffield’s UCU is one of 57 UCU branches across the country the has chosen to undertake strike action.
During the strike, UCU affiliated members of staff at the University of Sheffield walked away from all activities deemed to be part of their work.
