The University of Sheffield’s University and College Union (UCU) branch will take strike action from March 28 to April 1.
The UCU announced on March 4 that 68 universities across the country will face strike action this month unless vice chancellors revoke pension cuts and meet their staff’s demands over better pay and working conditions.
All UCU members are also taking part in ‘Action Short of a Strike’, meaning they will only work their contracted hours and not do tasks outside of their employment contract.
Sheffield’s UCU branch is also striking over the closure of the university’s archaeology department and proposed structural changes to the school of languages and culture.
Sheffield UCU members. took strike action for ten days in February, marking the university’s fourth year of strikes.
Sheffield students and community members in solidarity of the strike action recently occupied The Diamond, Jessop West, Arts Tower, Fifth Court, and the Hicks Building, demanding the university address the concerns of UCU members.
