Sheffield University release details of UCU strike information line

Days before the University and College Union are set to go on strike, the University of Sheffield have released details of an information line available to students.
In an email to all students on Thursday morning, the Vice-President for Education, Professor Wyn Morgan said a dedicated telephone number for queries about the strikes would go live on the morning of Monday 25 November, to coincide with the start of the industrial action.
He also said that the University were committed to ensuring there was as little disruption to students’ education as possible.
The information line will be open from 9.00am to 4.30pm on weekdays, and can be reached on 0114 215 7770.
Academic and support staff at universities around the country are set to go on strike from Monday, after UCU members voted to strike over two issues – changes to their pensions, and pay equality combined with the casualisation of the university sector.
UCU members also struck in spring 2018, also over pensions.
The Students’ Union Council voted almost unanimously two weeks ago to actively support the striking workers, while also emphasizing the importance of students’ welfare.
The strike is set to last for eight working days, concluding on Wednesday 4 December.
