Lincoln City snatched a late equalizer to stop Sheffield Wednesday claiming all three points at Hillsborough.
Darren Moore’s side took the lead thanks to Denis Adeniran in the 62nd minute, but Lincoln levelled the scoring with a Lewis Montsma header in the 80th, meaning Wednesday recorded their third consecutive draw.
After a slow start to the game from both sides, it was Lincoln that started the better of the two when Anthony Scully capitalised on a defensive lapse from Liam Palmer and nearly gave the away side the lead, but his effort was brushed aside by Peacock-Farrell.
The Owls then had a chance at the other end but Saido Berahino’s through-ball just missed Lee Gregory’s feet and was collected away by Griffiths.
However, it was Lincoln looking the most likely to get the first goal, with referee Martin Coy waving a penalty shout away after Scully tumbled in the area after a challenge from Marvin Johnson.
Wednesday continued to struggle in the first half, with Lincoln enjoying good spells of possession but failed to test Peacock-Farrell.
As the half went on, the Owls started to grow in the game and arguably had the best chance of the half, with Berahino turning and sliding a low drive effort on goal, leaving Griffiths to make a good reaction save in the 39th minute.
The referee then blew for half-time which came at a good time for Wednesday after 45 minutes where they failed to make an impact and were very much second best, as the visitors looked more likely to get an opening.
But the Owls started the second half like the first, after a defensive mix-up from Dominic Iorfa allowed Regan Poole to dart across the right-hand side of the box and drive a low effort across goal, which just missed the feet of Anthony Scully.
However, it was the Owls who found themselves in front out of nowhere. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru glanced menacingly into the box, curling an effort goalward leaving Griffiths no option to parry it out to the feet of Denis Adeniran who netted home in the 62nd.
The goal gave Wednesday a much-needed spark and the Owls then started to take control of the game with Adeniran and Dele-Bashiru dominating in midfield, with the latter nearly giving the Owls a security of a second goal, but his impressive run was not matched by the finish.
It was however the away side that managed to get the next goal totally against the run of play. They found themselves with a corner which was whipped in invitingly by Regan Poole and it found Lewis Montsma who glanced a header home from six yards out, dealing a big blow to the Owls.
Wednesday started to search for a winner but failed to create a decisive chance leaving the Owls slumping to a slightly underwhelming draw, but in the balance of play, it was probably a fair result.
Darren Moore’s side now lay in 9th position, three points outside the top six and visit Cheltenham Town on Saturday hoping to build on their four game unbeaten run. Lincoln City host Shrewsbury Town next Saturday, after a spirited performance which gave them a good away point.
