The Steel City Sirens, the University of Sheffield Students’ Union Burlesque Society, have announced their latest show, set to take place in mid-May.
The coven, which most recently took to the stage during the Students’ Union Grapefruit club night during LGBTQ+ History Month in February, will return to Foundry on May 9th.
The show has been described as “the magnum opus” of the group’s President Ella Holt, known as Electra Haze.
Announcing their latest show on Tuesday, the group were “very excited to announce […] ‘Bloodlust’, the Twilight-inspired burlesque show”.
“Get ready for an evening of seduction, lust, creativity and of course vampire enticement”.
They also shared further details about the production, including teasing “a special guest collaboration” with Sheffield University Speleological Society (ShefUniCavers), whom promised audiences “some cavers try[ing] to be sexy!”.
The Steel City Sirens are an inclusive burlesque group who run both regular classes and audience shows for students at the university.
Run by current students and former members, the group platforms performers of all genders and none in their work, allowing students of all classes and creeds to express themselves through the art form, often to paying audiences.
Bloodlust is set to be the group’s fifth public performance of the academic year, following their Grapefruit performance, as well as Shot Through the Heart, Naughty or Nice and Death Becomes Them, commemorating Valentine’s Day, Christmas and Halloween, respectively.
The group were also recently recognised for their work in nominations for the 2025 Activities Awards, with the group shortlisted for ‘Small Society of the Year’ and ‘Collaborative Initiative of the Year’.
The announcement has been met with much excitement from student groups and audiences alike, each excited for the return of the Steel City Sirens.
As preparations begin, audiences have only two weeks to wait for the city’s most renowned burlesque coven to take to the stage for their final performance of 2024/25.
The Steel City Sirens’ Bloodlust show is playing on May 9th in Foundry. Tickets are available here
