Student occupation spreads to the Diamond

A group of University of Sheffield students have occupied the University’s Diamond building in solidarity with UCU members of staff who are currently on strike.

The Diamond is now the fourth University building being held by the group of students. Jessop West, the Hicks Building, and the Arts Tower have been occupied since earlier in the week.

Classes in the buildings occupied have been cancelled.

UCU-affiliated members of staff are on strike over “falling pay, the gender and ethnic pay gap, precarious employment practices, and unsafe workloads”, as well as disputes over staff pensions.

The students have not given a timeframe for their occupation, nor have they stated whether the occupation will spread to other University buildings.
