Around November, the University of Sheffield is taken over by moustaches and related challenges, as the students are encouraged to get involved in Movember any way they can.
Movember has been campaigning to save men’s lives internationally since 2003, that’s 20 years of raising awareness for suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and much more.
This year is no different as University of Sheffield students Will Hardman and Harry Tuvey are leading the campaign, and they couldn’t be more excited.
Harry Tuvey, 21, a fourth year student said: “Movember provides a unique platform to address issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention, which are often overlooked or stigmatised.”
“We want the Movember campaign to inspire a lasting commitment to men’s health and leave students with a sense of achievement,
“Knowing that they were part of a movement that promotes well-being and support for all men.”
On average, in the UK 13 men a day take their own life, one in eight men will receive a diagnosis of prostate cancer in their lifetime, and testicular cancer is the most common cancer for men between 15 and 34.
The campaign is not just for those who can grow a mo, everyone is reminded they can play their part in the push for awareness.
Will Hardman, 21, a third year student said: “These events have not only been fun and engaging but also a great way to bring the student community together for a common cause.”
Adding: “Whether it’s growing a moustache, attending one of our big events, or simply spreading the word, we invite you to get involved with the effort.”
