Shona Tulloch has been elected as Part-Time Disabled students officer, becoming the first-ever candidate to win two officer elections.
With the introduction of part-time students union officers, this is the first time an elected full-time officer has been able to run again for a part-time officer position. Current Part-time officers could also run for full-time roles, like Phob Unsworth who is an SU President candidate.
On stage this evening, Tulloch said: “I’ve already done my little cry backstage. Being an officer last year as Liberation Officer has just been the most fantastic experience. I feel so honored to be the first officer who’s going to have a two-year term in this amazing job.
“I just wanted to ask everyone if you could raise a little glass in honor of my fantastic nan who sadly passed during the election period after 100 amazing years of being the most badass woman I know. And I know she would be super proud.”
Tulloch took the victory over fellow candidate Elle-May Robinson by just 48 votes, with the final standings being 170 votes for Tulloch and 122 for Robinson.
Tulloch currently holds the position of full-time Liberation officer but will take over the position of disabled student officer from Iz Ostrowska. Tulloch has lived as a BAME, LGBTQ+ and disabled student themselves and so has ran her campaign with these experiences at the core.
Among their other policies, Tulloch focuses on protecting students rights to reasonable adjustments, ensuring all disabled students are informed of DDSS and LSPs, imposing a minimum standard for digital learning and creating an inclusive and accessible community among disabled students.
