Alison Romaine will be the 2022/23 Sheffield Students’ Union Education Officer after a very close race with Ben Saunders.
Romaine edged out Saunders by four votes at the end of the sixth and final round of vote counting, a result tied for the closest race with SU President.
Romaine will replace the now-outgoing Savannah Hanson who will leave office at the end of June.
Her campaign manifesto advertised many key policies, particularly championing a decolonised and sustainable education at the University.
Saunders manifesto contained similar policies. The two were separated by no more than 18 through the six rounds, Saunders held that lead in the fourth round of counting.
The final totals in the race saw Romaine declared the winner in an 853 to 849 victory on Thursday night.
